Swerving lights and massive bass drops span five nights during mid October, as Amsterdam Dance Event takes over the city.  This attraction is considered one of, if not the most intense electronic music festivals on the planet.  Featuring over 800 artists in 75 diverse clubs in Amsterdam, even the most critical of electronic music fans will find a show and a stage to take over for a night.  Featured artists include artists from around the world such as Afrojack, Fatboy Slim, Pretty Lights, Paul van Dyk, Dassive, Ziggy, and many more. Ticket prices are generally around $20, but vary slightly per show.  However, with the addition of numerous free shows, there is no excuse not to attend.  For those interested in getting involved with updates and debates regarding electronic music, various conferences are also held during the days of the festival.  These conferences aim to “provide the international electronic music industry with an extensive and all-embracing platform to do business, exchange knowledge, and keep up to date on the latest developments and trends.” A few of the many conferences include “Music and Bits”, which focuses on electronic music opportunities due to advancements in the online world of music, “Beamlab”, which features a series of keynote presentations regarding video art, light design, software, and interactive projection, as well as “ADE University” which aims to inspire and educate passionate students on how to get involved with the electronic music industry.  As a new addition to the festival this year, ADE announces its “Playground” segment, which offers guests the opportunity to feel the festival vibes during the day via exhibitions, movies, showcases, informative classes, and inspiring workshops throughout the city.  Though several of the playground events are free to attend, many exclusive events are not, so it is suggested that visitors purchase the ADE card.  This card costs about $50 and includes entry to special events, drink tokens, entry in raffles, merchandise discounts, free promotional items, goodie bags, and more.  For those visiting Amsterdam during mid October, this eclectic, expansive, and energetic event is not one to be missed.
