What to do:
Get lost in nature…
Take a walk up the Filbert Steps to find stunning views and meet some beautiful feathered friends along the way. The renowned red-masked parakeets call this area home and have been featured in a book and documentary. Telegraph Hill has many green spaces perfect for having a picnic or taking a break from this challenging trek. Be sure to check out Coit Tower when you make it to the top.
Escape from the city and stroll along the wide and well-groomed path of the Lands End Trail. Take in the deep, blue waters of the churning San Francisco Bay, as you smell the fresh scent of eucalyptus trees. Catch glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge in all its glory. For an extra romantic atmosphere, go around sundown and literally walk off into the sunset together.
Instead of buying your lover a bouquet of flowers, transport them to parts of Asia, South America, New Zealand, and the United States with 8000 plant species found at the Botanical Garden. Mosey through gardens with colorful flowers, pine scented forests, and lush grasses. Afterward, ride paddle boats around Stow Lake or get a cup of tea in the Japanese Tea Garden.
Conduct some experiments…
If you and your significant other have great chemistry and also enjoy learning about chemistry and other sciences too, then pay a visit to the Exploratorium. Peruse through over 600 exhibits, which include interactive simulations, educational activities, and interesting displays.
Add a little adventure…
“Come fly with me, let’s fly, let’s fly away.” For a more adrenaline pumping date, get the experience of skydiving without the parachute. Feel the wind through your hair as you take flight in a vertical wind tunnel. Packages are available for couples and include all the necessary gear needed.
Get a little R&R…
Relax in the communal pools and saunas of the Kabuki Springs and Spa in Japantown. Sip on hot tea and unwind in this calming sanctuary.
Where to eat:
Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast or brunch at Mama’s. The comfortable atmosphere and classic dishes will make you feel right at home. Although sometimes there can be a long line, it is well worth the wait.
Get a taste of Buenos Aires with tu amor at this Argentinean inspired restaurant. Order one of their mouth-watering empanadas (available in both meat and vegetarian) or try one of their specialties, such as an Argentinean croissant or alfajores (a cookie with dulce de leche filling).
Mouthwatering homemade pasta and delectable meatballs….that’s amore! Seven Hills is acclaimed as one of the best Italian restaurants in the United States. And if you’re feeling especially romantic, you can share a plate of their delicious spaghetti, ‘Lady and the Tramp style.’
If you are looking to spice things up then head to Mourad, a restaurant serving modern Moroccan cuisine. The dark wood furniture and modern interior will provide a romantic and inviting ambiance. Order a plate for yourself or share a meal Moroccan family-style.
Feel like you’ve stepped into a restaurant in the City of Love (Paris). Jive to live jazz music Wednesday through Sunday while indulging in a variety of French delicacies. If the weather is decent, sit outside for a true Parisian dining experience.
If you and your significant other both have a sweet tooth, then you definitely need to make a stop at this 1930’s style soda and ice cream bar. Indulge in a tasty ice cream treat or soda, both made with fresh, in-house ingredients. Or get the best of both worlds by ordering one of their soda and ice cream floats.
Where to go out:
Any wine lovers out there? See one of the places where California winemaking began and grab yourself a glass or two of rich vino. Select from a list of daily tastings or order a glass of their ‘current releases.’
If you are looking for a hip and happening place to grab a drink, then BarrelHouse will be right up your alley. Order from their extensive drink list and play a game of billiard. This fun and friendly atmosphere is the perfect place for great conversation and getting to know someone.
Glamorous, classy, and romantic are three words that describe the Starlight Room. This eighty-five year old hotel offers 360-degree views of the city. Order one of their signature cocktails and sweep your date off their feet (literally) on the dance floor. Put on your dress or suit (the dress code is strictly enforced) and get ready for a fun-filled night.
